The Daughters of the Theotokos is the St Joseph Orthodox
Church chapter of the Antiochian Orthodox Church Women of
North America (AOCWNA) founded in 1989. The "Daughters
of the Theotokos" (D.O.T.) is also a member of the
Southwest Region AOCWNA organization and the National
AOCWNA, both of which meet twice a year. Each year, AOCWNA
chapters across North America promote a common charity.
There is currently a five year focus by the Archdiocese
for the Clergy Retirement Fund to receive the cash
contribution each April.
The women's group also provides a structure
for service, socializing, and scheduling.
There is a "business meeting" approximately every other
month, usually tied to a brown bag lunch, following a
blitz-clean or a social, to select and schedule
activities.
Anyone is invited to attend and contribute to the
discussion. Although there is no formal organization to
join or dues to pay, participating in opportunities to
serve and socialize strengthens a sense of community. To

Daughters of the Theotokos - Women's
Group:
Please note
the following items, and pray about your gift to this
necessary cause. March is the month we offer further
information regarding the Retired Clergy Fund, which
Diocesan donation is due April 15. The Sacred Meals
Cookbook by Rev. John David Finley will be available
for sale to raise funds. This book sells for $20.00, and
will be ordered promptly upon the requisite number of
signatures requesting copies. A sign up sheet will be
posted in March, along with detail regarding the book. This
is a fine addition to the family library, and recommend by
the Diocesan women's group.
The Tabitha Circle (formerly "Baby
Booties for Life") continues to contribute hand crafted baby
booties for the Pregnancy Resource Center in Fort Bend
County - hand delivered by Gayle Born. In addition to this,
we made sweaters for, and received generous gifts from the
parish, to send to the Protection of the Theotokos Family
Center in Romania. These items were shipped in January.
Tabitha Circle
meets monthly, before the St Phililp Prayer Study Group,
usually the first Saturday afternoon. We will also be
sewing some simple items to send to Ancuta Frantz for the
PTFC in Romania, and continuing with the knitting and
crochet items. Any one interested in participating, please
contact Isabel Stone.
If you would
be interested in acting as coordinator for the OCMC for our
parish, please see Father Matthew.
